HISTORY OF THE ROTH BUILDING
1911
The
Roth brothers draw plans for a
two-story and basement brick structure to be erected on their property adjoining that of the Yolo County Savings Bank on Main Street.
1912
Chris Sieber Jr. (who bought Gibson’s hardware store in 1903) moves the business to the Roth building shortly after its completion. Sieber’s hardware store, the local dealer for the
John Deere Plow Company, also sells
Studebaker wagons and carriages, and manufactures harnesses.
The upstairs of the building is used as
lodging.
Mid-Century Uses
W.A. Scruby installs three alleys for
American Box Ball in
“one of the storerooms in the new Roth building.”
Hunter & Chapman real estate office locates in the Roth building, second floor.
Roth brothers purchase
Fashion Stable building from
Yolo Savings Bank.
1925
W.P. Boyce of Winters purchases the building.
Evans & Pyle hardware firm (who bought Sieber’s business) occupies entire first floor.
1950s
Woodland Plumbing & Hardware occupies first floor.
Late 20th Century to Present
1979
Woodland Stationery at 427;
Oak’s Hotel at 427 1/2;
Todd’s Waterbed and Furniture at 431.
1991
Karl Fisher, Judy Boyer, and Joe Johnson of Woodland
purchase and renovate the building.
2003–2017
Sears Hometown Store occupies entire first floor of the Roth building.
2016
Half Moon Fruit & Produce Company purchases the building.
2024 -Present
Construction of the Roth Event Venue Begins.
